Guiders Education students at IPD OUM Kulalampur Malaysia

25 students from Guiders Academy, India visited the OUM campus recently. Guiders Academy in Kerala, India is one of IPD OUM’s training partner in providing professional programmes mainly in two different industries – shipping and logistics & aviation. Students undertake courses at Guiders while doing their bachelor or master courses. The courses are designed to transform the into employable professionals by the time they graduation.
Co-founder and Director of Academics, Ms Riya Ann Cherian says part of their curriculum is to visit another country to get a slice of what’s happening outside their world.

“The Indian education system is totally different from the Malaysian education. So on these educational visits, they see what’s happening around, they talk to people and they also get a session on Malaysian toursim. It’s a totally new experience for them.”
Ms Cherian, a commerce graduate, was compelled to start an educational institute after being in the tourism industry for many years. She felt the need to fill the gaps between graduates with their qualifications and their lack of industrial knowledge.

Nainan John, Director of Operations at Guiders who is also a practicing lawyer says the courses at Guiders are very job-oriented.
“It equippes them for a particular industry. In our case, we focus on 2 – shipping and logistics and aviation.”

“Kerala is one of the major tourist destination in India and there is a boom of aviation there. Upon completion of our fourth International Airport, we will be one of the 2 states in India with the most number of International Airports. India itself is on the 9th position on the global aviation market. Hence, there is a a hundred percent placement guarantee for our students.”

This is the 3rd batch from Guiders that have visited OUM – the first two visited last year. All of the students, aged 18 to 21, have completed the A-Level’s or have graduated from a university.

Both Mr John and Ms Cheriyan says their main objective is to bring down the training period of an employee which is in line with IPD OUM’s mission – to provide customised contemporary skills and professional training programmes to corporate clients and individuals.
IPD provides certification for those who graduate from Guiders.
